You have not read everything I posted. I explained why VPN needs to be deleted AND REINSTALLED after an update. I won’t post it again because that is getting boring.

EVERY version of iOS patches some real and some potential vulnerabilities. Apple doesn’t force you to update, but they make it a pain if you don’t. Please read the security updates for each version before you decide you are willing to live with the risks of not updating. And 15.3.1 didn’t MAKE the user vulnerable to hacking; users were vulnerable before and into that update. 15.4 fixed one vulnerability, and 15.4.1 fixed a newly discovered vulnerability.

But here is where you can learn what risks there are that are fixed with each update→Apple security updates - Apple Support

But since you are in favor of using VPN, even though it offers no benefits and adds risks, here is something to think about→Don't use VPN - GITHUB

There are two legitimate purposes for using VPN:

  • To allow access to a private network such as a school or business when you are not on site.
  • To allow access outside of a country with a repressive government that has restricted Internet access. (This has suddenly become more important)

Any other use is risky, and can lead to problems like the one discussed in this thread. VPN disguises your location by making you appear to be somewhere else in the world. But you usually can’t control that “somewhere else”, and if it is in a location that an app isn’t approved for the app won’t work. Plus the fact that the provider of the VPN knows everything about you and your location, as well as what sites you access through the VPN. So you are totally dependent on the VPN provider’s honesty. As a start, if the VPN is free, DON’T USE IT. The provider has to make money somehow, and if you aren’t paying them then they are selling your private data to make money. But even those that charge can’t necessarily be trusted. For example, a few years ago Avast was caught selling user browsing data. They claim they have stopped doing so.

You don’t really need VPN when using public Wi-Fi, because all communications between your device and the servers it accesses are end-to-end encrypted.

If you want VPN for privacy about the sites you visit, that’s not a good choice as discussed; instead you should download and use the TOR browser.

With iOS 15.2 for iOS/iPadOS and MacOS Monterey 12.2 and later Apple now has iCloud+ Private Relay, which is like a super VPN, except that it doesn't spy on you→About iCloud Private Relay - Apple Support

Hi all, After iOS 15.4.1 update I have been experiencing WiFi auto disconnect issue on my iPhone 11. Did restore/clean install iOS but nothing changed. I have MacBook Air as well and that seems to be working as intended. Could say that surely as when WiFi disconnect occurs on my iPhone at the same time I check my other devices connection for example my MacBook Air plus my other android devices and that works with no issue. Hope that Apple Inc should look into this and will fix this issue in the next update. Thanks!

I’m sorry to say that these ‘Helpdesk Advice’ topics start to annoy me, since they don’t help to solve the actual problem:

iOS 15.4.1 has a connectivity issue, strongly present on WiFi (yes, naturally I restarted the WiFi router; yes, I removed the WiFi amplifiers and stood next to the WiFi router to ensure full and direct reception; yes, I restart both iPhone and iPad on a daily basis; no, my daughter is not using any form of VPN and never has, where I do, but we both have the same issue), and a little less strong on cell connetivity (both on iPad Pro 13” 5G as iPhone 12 Pro).

Hence, the only solution would be a quick update from Apple. Please take responsibility and resolve the issue asap.

My wife and I both have ipads we both updated to 15.4.1 both ipads immediately started to lose wifi connections. I checked the speeds both were around 4 mps download upload less than 1. My computer on wifi was over 40mps which was next to the ipads. We are both experiencing continual slow speeds and resulting wifi dropouts.

This is definately caused by the latest update. How do we fix it? I have tried all my setting on the ipads and the modem. Nothing fixes it.

I’m sorry to say that this is not a “help desk”. It is a user-to-user forum where users try to help other users. I have 4 devices on 15.4.1. All of them still show full Wi-Fi speeds of over 100 mbps, matching my contracted cable speed spec. So if it is a problem with a version it is a VERY selective problem.

if you would like to discuss it with Apple (and also add to their problem database) click on the get support link at the top of this page. The only way Apple will know that it is a widespread problem (if it is) comes from users contacting Apple about it.

As a simple check of whether it is a phone problem or a network problem, test the phone on another network, like Starbucks or a Apple store. Have you done that?

I’m having the same problem but almost worse.

Wifi is unusable on my iPhone 12 mini except when I’m actually on a call (phone, WhatsApp or Voice) and then if my wifi is off, nobody can hear me and I can’t hear them. In this circumstance turning my wifi back on helps.

But if I’m trying to browse websites, forget about it. Nothing loads with wifi.

My iPad Pro is doing just fine on 14.8, returning 52 Mbps on a VPN connection, so there is no excuse.

Yes, I turned VPN off, restarted my phone, and reset all network settings. Nothing is helping.

There are no VPN profiles installed on my iPhone 13. I ended up taking the sim card out of that phone and placing it into my iPhone 11. I just bought the iPhone 13 a month ago and it worked just fine until I installed this useless system update. Now my wi-fi connection that works just fine on my iPhone 11 only works intermittently on the iPhone 13. Reset all network settings, restarted my phone, and nothing was helping to fix the problem. Without access to wi-fi my iPhone 13 is now useless. It was definitely the system update that caused the problem because everything works just fine on my iPhone 11 and on all of my other non-Apple devices.

Can someone who has the intermittent wifi issues perform a speed test when the problems occur on iPhone just so I know if others get the same. Im on wifi 5G and hit 248mbs but browsing etc goes really slow. The speed never really alters much but performance is intermittently ridiculous i.e. its just taken 8 mins to perform a small app update.

Not sure if its related or not but since 15.4.1 i’m getting far more call drops and messages failing to send (ive never previously had a failed message).

Turning VPN off is not sufficient. You need to delete the VPN profile and app. Even when off the VPN profile interferes with the network stack on the phone.

If you really feel you must have VPN (and there are almost no reasons to use it) delete it before any update, then reinstall it after the update. Most update change details in the network stack, and the VPN app needs to be reconfigured for the new parameters.
