I cannot get my rarely used apple pen to activate..I have tried to charge it up via the lightning point but am getting confusing info on charging status I.e.blue tooth info is that it’s not connected and the charge remaining is 100% whilst the I pad indicates that there is just 1%…It still doesn’t activate the pen settings although my finger can activate them and can select pens, colour and tone strength as my pen used to?

You say the Apple Pencil is rarely used. If by chance it was left uncharged for an extended period of time, the teen tiny battery in the pencil often loses its ability to hard a charge, which would seem to mirror your experience with your pencil. The batteries in the pencil needs to be charged continuously to remain alive.
