I lost my iTunes organization when migrating to Apple Music

I was able to import my iTunes library to Apple Music but all my folders are gone. I see a list of thousands of songs. 98% of my library was not downloaded from iTunes. Is there a way to get the organization back without rebuiding it all by hand?

In which case see Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community. A key detail is that you should option-start-Music and choose an iTunes Library.itl to convert to Music rather than importing the files into an empty Music library.

Did you rip media into .wav format? When you say the folders are gone is this in Finder, or are you missing album and artist detals in Music as well. Do you still have the working iTunes library on an older computer or backup, or a copy of the files in the original artist and album folder layout? See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community for more on migrating the library.

The library is made from ripped cd’s in MP3 and mp4 format, MP3’s that were given to me, and my own recordings. I work in the music business. Everything is fine on my old Sierra iMac with iTunes. Folders are organized by artist, album and genre. In finder they are organized by album or composer. When I ran migration assistant the only thing in Apple Music was the handful of albums downloaded from iTunes. When I imported my library all the songs came in but there is no organization.
