Voice memo stuck on "Saving changes..." - how to cancel?

I recorded a meeting on 2nd device (iphone 8, iOS 14.8), and forgot to turn it off. My voice mail therefore continued to record for probably 2-3 days, probably until the storage limit on my phone was reached.

I wanted to save the voice mail and edit, but it's status is "Saving changes..." and the progress circle only gets up to about 25% before it just stops increasing. Been in that state for about 12 hours.

I've tried using backup retrieval software, but nothing finds the voice mail on my phone or my backup.

If I hold down the Voice Mail icon, I can actually see the recording and start to play it, but I can't do anything from within the app itself.

Is there a way to force the iphone to stop saving the changes or to retrieve the file to my desktop so I can edit the excess recording?

Thanks Rob. One of my IT staff actually recommended a product that they said was better at finding files in the itunes backup, and this worked. Was able to find the voice memo in the backup, and edit it down to the content that I needed.

Need to figure out how to close this issue.

If the device seems to be stuck/unresponsive, you may need to restart your device. We would like to be upfront though and let you know that restarting your device might cause you to lose the recording if it was unable to save:
