ApplicationScreen Size Changes/External Monitors

I have a current 14" MBP. I have started using it with a 4K external monitor, with the lid closed. I have a secondary Full HD monitor.

When I unplug the monitors to use as a laptop, all the open apps are out of kilter due to the different screen sizes, same when I plug back in.

Is there an app or something in Apple that I can get the open application screen to somehow conform to the screen I'm using?

Hope that makes sense?

Hi RonEdwards,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like your MacBook Pro displays are scaled to the larger size display after being disconnected. In that case, from Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Displays, then Display Settings. Try selecting 'Default for Display' which should automatically adjust your screen once disconnected. If you haven't yet, you might want to check the Mac App Store, and take a look at some of the reviews to see if there's anything available that might help with Desktop organization, specifically when using multiple displays and scaling.

Download apps from the App Store on your Mac

You may get some suggestions from other members of the community from here, but App Store reviews are a pretty good way to get insight on specific apps, to see if they'll meet your need.

Thanks for the reply! Yep, my 4k is not scaled for default as that's way too big! I want more on the screen, so it's scaled to show me more! I hadn't totally put 2 and 2 together on that one - is there any way or a 3rd party app that can change the app sizes settings based upon the screen in use? So the same way the screen size changes, the application window sizes change?
