Apple Mail not marking messages as Read, after opening an viewing. Also does not delete nor move to trash, but does change Delete icon to Undelete.

I constantly have to close Apple Mail and reopen to reset the "read" messages and allow delete email to work.

I am currently using the most up-to-date Monterey version 12.3.1 .

I had hoped my recent update last week would correct the problem, BUT IT DID NOT !!!

VERY FRUSTRATING !!!

I think the problem surfaced after the first Monterey update. I don't believe there was a problem on initial Monterey installation and its original Version.

PLEASE HELP !!!!

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Apple Mail 16.0

Messages are received in Inbox. Messages are in BOLD font and have a Blue (unread) dot indicator, which both dictates the message is Unread. When operating properly, when a message is clicked on and viewed, the Bold Font changes to standard font and the Blue Dot disappears. When mail is "acting up", the message remains bold font and the blue dot does not disappear. VERY FRUSTRATING !!! Also, if I Forward or Reply, there should be the arrow where the Blue dot was, but when "acting up" that does not happen either. If I delete the message, it should be removed from Inbox folder and move to the Trash Folder, but, when "acting up" the message stays in Inbox, but oddly the word "Delete" on Toolbar changes to "Undelete". Very Odd and VERY FRUSTRATING !!!! To correct when "acting up", I would have to CLOSE Mail and RE-OPEN. Sometimes it is intermittent and sometimes it happens one right after another Close/Open function.
