Wireless earbud stuttering/choppiness with iPhone 13

I have been using a regular pair of wireless earbuds (Lypertek Pureplay Z3) with my iPhone 8 and now 13. Several months ago with the iPhone 8, the earbuds began to have a persistent stutter in one or both ears when listening. Extremely frequent (often every couple of minutes, sometimes more or less, occasionally long periods without), sometimes cutting quickly in and out/static-y, sometimes turning off for several seconds, quite frustrating and even a bit painful when listening to something loud.

I first attempted to fix the problem by contacting the audio company, who replaced my earbuds. However, the new earbuds had the same issue with my iPhone 8. Additionally, both the old and new pair of earbuds connect absolutely perfectly with two computers, an iMac desktop and a windows laptop, which seems to confirm the problem being the phone not the earbuds (?).

Recently, I upgraded to an iPhone 13, and now am experiencing the same problems with earbud stuttering even with a brand new phone. I even tried to reset all of the phone settings etc set up the phone from scratch rather than transferring my backup just in case the backup contained some kind of corrupted or accidentally changed settings that were causing the problem.

I'm about at wit's end with this. I guess it could be a specific problem with the brand of headphones with the iPhone? But these earbuds get consistently good reviews with no mention of any issue like this, and it seems incredibly unlikely to receive two (identically) defective earbuds in a row.

Any advice on any fixes/settings changes/even just explanations would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi volcanoguy,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand the sound quality isn't what you'd expect when you connect your earbuds to your iPhone.

Since you're experiencing the same behavior with two different sets, you may consider ruling out wireless interference. You can learn more here: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

Symptoms of wireless interference
Any of these symptoms could be caused by interference affecting the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signal:
• Device doesn't connect or stay connected
• Connection is slow and signal strength is low
• Bluetooth audio skips, stutters, cuts off, or has static or buzzing
• Pointer movement is erratic or jumpy

How to reduce wireless interference
These general steps can help achieve a cleaner, stronger wireless signal:
• Bring your Wi-Fi device closer to your Wi-Fi router. Bring the Bluetooth devices that are connecting to each other closer together.
• Avoid using your wireless devices near common sources of interference, such as power cables, microwave ovens, fluorescent lights, wireless video cameras, and cordless phones.
• Reduce the number of active devices that use the same wireless frequency band. Both • • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices use the 2.4 GHz band, but many Wi-Fi devices can use the 5 GHz band instead. If your Wi-Fi router supports both bands, it might help to connect more of your Wi-Fi devices to the 5GHz band. Some dual-band routers manage this for you automatically.
• Configure your Wi-Fi router to use a different Wi-Fi channel, or have it scan for the channel with the least interference. Most routers perform this scan automatically on startup or when reset.

We hope this helps.

Take care!
