Parental controls for divorced parents

I’m recently divorced and we share custody of our two children. My ex is the organizer of our family group, which we use to consistently manage screen time limits for our kids. The problem is that my ex gets notification of any purchases I make, and if I don’t keep my account loaded with gift card credits my purchases are charged to his credit card. Is there any way to keep my purchases private while maintaining joint control over screen time? This seems like a pretty huge oversight in the Family Sharing setup, given how many divorced parents there are.

I am not familiar with a solution to this situation. The setup is the way it is. Apple doesn't say why but it appears to be designed to restrict a "family" to a group of people who are in a close relationship with the family organizer. Your only solution which likely would not work would be for the children to transfer from a group managed by you and one by your husband. That won't allow simultaneous control though, plus it may be a hassle having to do it, plus there are limits to how often you can do it, plus the children wouln't be able to access content bought by the family in which they were not currently a member..

Is there any way to register a concern about this with apple, or ask them to include features to address this gap in the next iteration of screen time/parental controls/family sharing? I have a similar issue, and I know there are a ton of families trying to make this work with kids living across two households. It just seems like it should be possible to add an adult to a family group with some kind of special status that gives them control over a kid's devices without sharing other purchases, financial information, etc. I can imagine non-guardian caregivers who might need this kind of access, as well.

Do you know how I could raise this concern with apple in an effective way? These controls are so robust — I would rather work with them rather than try to find some other software to do the job. But some small tweaks would be great!
