"How can I retrieve photos from an old device that wasn’t backed up?: I failed to mention this in my original question but I was specifically inquiring about previous iPhones. Though this in formation is extremely helpful.

You are welcome.

Obtaining Photos form Previous Phones:

Use iCloud Photos:

Is Photos enabled in iCloud Settings on these previous iPhones? If so, enable Photos in iCloud on your other Apple devices, and see if the data shows up. If your iPhone has items synced with iCloud on them, then they should pop right up.

A. Enabling iCloud Photos on an iPhone:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Your Name (Top Item)
  3. Tap: iCloud
  4. Tap: Photos (so that it is green)

B. Enabling iCloud Photos On a Mac:

Access from iCloud, Manually:

  1. Go To: icloud.com
  2. Select: Photos
  3. Download: the Photos

C. Check iCloud, Directly: Go here, and see if you can access them from iCloudhttps://www.icloud.com/photos

For Note:

IMPORTANT:

Perform as instructed here, prior to ridding of an iPhone: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.. Not doing so, the buyer cannot use it with their own Apple ID.

Troubleshooting Lost Photos:

Loss of data is something you would have agreed to upon opening an Apple Account. So, if the following does not work, then they are gone. That's jus the way it is :(

Three Tactics to Try:

A. Start here: If you're Missing Photos or Videos in the Photos app - Apple Support

B. Use a Time Machine Backup:

Did you backup your Mac, recently? If so, then restore your Mac from that. You'd backup you Mac prior to doing so, and then restore your data from the backup you just created, through use of Migration Assistant.

C. Where Else to Check:

  • PC
  • PDA
  • eMail
  • Mac Device
  • Cloud Storage
  • Android Phone
  • USB Flash Drive
  • External Hard drive
  • Secure Digital Card
  • Compact Flash Card
