I keep updating song information in my Apple Music Library, mainly genre and year so that I can sort into playlists. But every time I log back in to my music app on my MacBook the information has reverted back. Surely there must be a way of updating years and genres without them changing? It's driving me insane!

This seems to be an ongoing issue for some users on Monterey, perhaps more so for Intel Macs. You may have more luck following a reboot. It may also help to option-start-Music and explicitly choose your active Music Library.musiclibrary database. Report the issue via Feedback - macOS - Apple.
