FWIWl, for a model that old, the cost of repair will likely be much more than the computer is worth. Reason is that the RAM on that model is soldered to the logic board and therefore the entire logic board would need to be replaced.
Ok, I guess we will need to get him a new air to replace the one he had. Is there anyway to recover his school files? It has the solid state memory storage, so I assume I can not pull it and plug in a drive cable to use adapter.

If you are saying that you purchased AppleCare and you computer is still covered, it should cost you nothing if there is no physical or water damage?
This laptop is an old 2010 model which I gave to my grandson a few years back. There is no apple care hence why I am looking for the repair price.
This is why it is prudent to keep backups on an external drive.
