Edifier bluetooth speakers connection issue

Everything was working fine.. As soon as I upgraded to Monterey things went weird.

The OS seems to think these are headphones as the headphone icon is displaying in the top bar.
When I play music or a video, sometimes I hear clicks from the speakers.
I suspect the sound quality may have degraded, although it's hard to know for sure.

Mac mini, macOS 12.3

Use the Audio Midi Setup utility to manage the output quality of the speakers. Note the speakers may have a maximum frequency range that should not be exceeded by the determined connection.

It has done so since at least the inception of the mini-Toslink and SPDIF connectivity on the G5 machines. The introduction of greater than stereo sound unfortunately has created the need to guess the audio output on each update.

Thanks had a play with it but doesn't do anything. Surely an OS upgrade shouldn't change the frequency range of the connection?

I just want to know why the mac thinks my speakers are headphones. And why it was working perfectly before, but with the upgrade to Monterey the speakers are making clicking sounds.
