What to do when audio from airplay keeps cutting off intermittently?

Hello! I would like to ask some help on how to solve this issue:

I like to do screen mirroring from my macbook to the apple tv and play songs from Spotify while also reading their lyrics. However, since a month or so, the audio keeps cutting off like a scratched vinyl or CD every 2 to 3 min. I can't listen to one single song in peace without those interruptions.

I would like to know if anyone had similar issue and how it was solved.

Solutions I tried: turning off the wifi; changing both from connecting to 5.0GHz network to the 2.4GHz network; restarting router; restarting computer; restarting apple tv device; restarting the TV itself; "forgetting" wifi from computer and the apple TV and joining again; running wireless diagnosis but not finding any issue...

HELP, please? It started about a month ago and I didn't bring anything new to the house that could even cause interference in signal.

Thanks.

Hi ryane77,

Thanks for the suggestions. I have the Spotify for Apple TV version which I use often but it doesn't show lyrics there. That is why I like to mirror from the computer, so I can read lyrics while playing.

This time, I did the following:

  • Tested if audio also cuts off while playing from the browser. No solution, still cuts off every few minutes.
  • Turned off TV, router and macbook and waited a few minutes to turn on. No solution.
  • Created a new user and tested mirroring. Still no solution.
  • Checked for system updates. There was. I updated. Tested mirroring again. Still no solution.
  • Tested from another macbook I have. For this one, the audio during screen mirroring did not cut off. Worked fine.

So I guess the issue is with this macbook itself? It is pretty new. Bought in November/2021 but I only started using it in Jan/2022. I have been complaining about it's trackpad (bottom left corner doesn't have pressure) and about 5 or 6 times by now it has restarted in the middle of me working :(

Hi applesforgabe,

We see you're having issues using Spotify and AirPlay, and we have a few suggestions that might be helpful in narrowing this down a bit.

Have you tried using the Apple TV version of the Spotify app to see if you get the same issue?

Also, do you have any other apps you could use to stream from the Mac to Apple TV? Knowing if only Spotify is affected would be good information for troubleshooting.

Another step you could try is testing in a new administrator account, which will tell you if the issue is system-wide or user account-specific. Here's how to Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.

Let us know, and we'll go from there. Take care.

Thank you for getting back to us, applesforgabe!

To further isolate the issue, you may try testing streaming from another app while using AirPlay to see if the same thing happens. That may indicate either an issue with the app specifically, or an issue with connection or bandwidth.

It does sounds like you're having some other issues with your MacBook though, so it may be a good idea t\o reach out to Apple Support directly. We'll go ahead and provide the link below incase you need it.
