You can drag and drop locally stored, non-Apple Music tracks, from your library to a USB drive, or to a folder on your desktop if iTunes doesn't want to do a direct copy. See also ExportToFolder. Or if you still want to burn CDs you can buy an external optical drive for around $20/£20.

Thnaks for the info -- yes buying a external drive is the simplist solution --- but I have not tried it, but if the tracks in itunes are in apple format, would the export to folder have an option to convert the tranks to mp3?
No, ExportToFolder copies the tracks in their original format. You'd have to get iTunes to make converted copies first if you want them in a specific format.
