Determine source of multicast IP

I'm running the latest Monterey 12.3.1 on an M1 iMac. When I run an IP scan of my network I see 2 multicast addresses:

235.255.255.239 (MAC address: 01:00:5E:7F:FF:EF) and

239.0.0.250 (MAC address: 01:00:5E:00:00:FA).

Is there any way to determine where on my network they are coming from?

Thanks.

Hi wa1oui, We appreciate you reaching out to us. We understand that you discovered MAC addresses on your multicast network.

As mentioned in the article below, "Multicast networking is commonly used for discovery protocols, allowing you to identify other devices on the network, or for bulk delivery of data to many hosts on the same network."

How to use multicast networking in your app

It would be challenging to identify a device based on a MAC address because some devices are using randomized MAC addresses, and some may even have MAC address spoofing.

We recommend that you reach out to the manufacturer of your router or access point and get support on how you can identify which devices are connected to your network.

Take care!
