AppleTV asks for iCLoud user agreement approval, but does not let me approve

Since a couple of weeks, every now and then (several times a day) a popup screen on my AppleTV asks me to accept the end user agreement for ICloud in order to be able to use iCloud from my AppleTV. There are two buttons available:

  • "Not now", which makes the popup re-appear again after a while
  • "View agreement", which if I click it takes me to the screen of the Settings App which shows the AppleID used for iCloud, and one single thing that can be pressed: "Log out".

So, I cannot view the agreement, and I cannot find anywhere to accept it. Meaning that question comes back over and over again, and is really annoying.

I have looked through all the AppleTV settings menus, but find nothing about any agreement for iCLoud to approve, and I have logged in to my iCloud account from a PC (I am not a Mac user, and I do not explicitly use iCLoud for anything, ever), and cannot find any agreement to approve there either.

What is going on, and how do I stop it? I am perfectly fine with approving the agreement, if I can only find out how to do it. But I am not sure I need it, even. I am using my AppleTV without any conscious use of iCloud. If it works like that, I am not in any need for iCloud. But I don't want this question popping up all the time. So i'd still be fine with approving the iCLoud agreement/terms.

Note: My AppleTV has non-english menus, so my translations of the things said in the UI might not be exactly what an english AppleTV would say.

Hello jesterdaze,

What model of Apple TV do you use? Is the Apple TV software up-to-date? Here's information on how to Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support. If the software needs to be updated, follow these steps: Update Apple TV software - Apple Support.

If the software is up-to-date and restarting did not correct the issue, you may want to reach out to Apple TV Support directly: Apple TV - Official Apple Support.

Cheers!

Hi and thanks

Language (Swedish) and Region (Sweden) are set correctly. I am pretty sure I restarted since this issue started, but I have now restarted again. But now I guess I need to wait until the request appears again, and see if it is different because of this last restart.

What is SUPPOSED to happen when I hit the "View agreement" button? Am i supposed to get to a text with the end user agreement, and an "OK" button? And if so, is there a way I can get there more manually, rather than waiting for the request? Otherwise the trouble shooting may take forever, I am afraid. :/

I try to find something in the "accounts" part of the Setting in the Apple TV; but nothing (the translation to Swedish is not understandable in some parts, making it pretty hilarious, though)

Thanks! That at least shows me the agreement text, and an OK button, so now with some luck i won't be asked again.

It would not be difficult to say what you just said somewhere in the GUI. Sure, I might eventually have tried (it is not entirely illogical to log out and in again) but a few words of sensible instructions instead of what is there now would have made me try immideately.

Thanks a lot!

You're welcome. I agree, at first you don't even know what should happen, you can press back button and go on, as I did for quite some time. After a week I got tired of seeing that nonsense periodically. So I came here for an answer, but unfortunately didn't find it. Wasted some time on reading a thread (English is not my native language) and thought that you solved it in a personal chat with the help desk. So I tried by myself. That's not a lot of options there, but at first I was concerned that I do not remember my password, didn't wanted to logout, as you might too. When you start the TV you want to rest, not to think ;) Quite unsuspected behavior of apple product, I hope they will fix that in an update. Before that, I hope my post will help someone too. Thanks for a reply and marking it as "solved"

I was about to contact support, but the read your suggestion.

I cannot help wondering how everyone else seem to not recognize the symptoms, even? I asked in Facebook groups before turning here, and no-one seems to recognize the issue.

Now it is solved, however. But ibthinkbthe way it works with the UI is close to an error. Being that unclear is not good.

Thanks again.
