Using a VPN to access the Internet does absolutely nothing to enhance your privacy or security. Quite the opposite...
VPNs are intended to give you a secure connection over the Internet to a private network such as your employer or school, so that you can access resources on that network remotely.
All you do by using a so-called "public" VPN to access the Internet is to route all of your traffic through a single entity who can see all of your data traffic and can not be trusted to keep it confidential or secure.
Ask your VPN provider for support.

In the case of Nord VPN, there is a software installer and that's it, login and connect. In my experience, a good (secure) VPN is an essential privacy tool.
