Ripping multiple CDs into single audiobook with Music or Books?

Trying to rip multiple-disk audiobook physical CDs onto Mac to then combine into single audiobook to be played on iPhone. Apparently this was easily doable with iTunes, but I can’t find how to do it properly with Music and/or Books. Step-by-step instructions are appreciated. I’m also open to using another free software to accomplish the task. Thank you.

FYI using 2020 MBP with Big Sur 11.1 and M1 chip if it matters.

Music on Big Sur should work pretty much like iTunes with Mojave (or earlier) or on a PC except that you now sync using the Finder instead of from iTunes.

If that is not the issue, can you describe in more detail where you are having problems?

It has to be done in the Music app, not Books.

You can join tracks, but it appears that has to be done when the cds are in the cd drive. See this post: Join CD tracks missing in Mac Monterrey - Apple Community

I don't have a cd drive so can't check.

The way I have done it in the past is by using Get Info, track 1 of 28, etc, and changing the genre to Audiobook, which can then be added to the Books app.

Syncing shouldn’t be a problem. It’s the ripping the CDs, condensing into a single file,

and “converting” to audiobooks that I need detail.
