just updated to 1231 and my keyboard is messed up: it automatically switched to some weird keyboard so I manually changed it to US but my keyboard is still a mess

Try booting to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

A lot of times just boot to Safe Mode followed by normal boot resolves problems.
If no problem in Safe Mode but problem returns after a normal boot that mean something is being loaded during a normal boot that is causing the problem.

so it will not switch back to qwerty keyboard after the update but will only do azerty

Sorry for the delay. It’s staying in QWERTY for now —I did the safe mode restart and —-fingers crossed —-it hasn’t gone back to the other.
