unwanted website opens automatically when I open safari on my laptop

In surfing the web, I inadvertently now have an unwanted porn tab that opens every time I open safari. My homepage opens correctly, but there is a tab before it that always opens. That tab has no X to delete it. I have tried force quitting, opening with shift down, removing history. none of this works

MacBook Pro 15″, OS X 10.11
