Photo Storage shows 1.2GB used, when I have NO photos on my phone

My iPhone has maintained showing more than 1.2GB used in storage space, when I have NO photos on my phone (or in deleted items, and I don’t sync/store photos in the cloud).

how do I fix this issue to get my 1+ GB of storage space back from these apparent “ghost Photos or data?” I tried that set the date backwards thing I saw from a YouTube help video, but I didn’t have photos suddenly appear back to delete, so that method didn’t work for me.

Hello Jrobbie,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's check to see if the same thing appears on iTunes or Finder.

"Use the Finder or iTunes to check the storage on your iOS device

  1. On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes.
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. Select your device in the Finder or in iTunes. You'll see a bar that shows how much storage your content uses, divided by content type.
  4. Move your mouse over the bar to see how much storage each content type is using.

Here's a list of the types of content on your device, and what each type includes:

  • Audio: Songs, audio podcasts, audiobooks, voice memos, and ringtones.
  • Video: Movies, music videos, and TV shows.
  • Photos: Content in your Photo Library, Camera Roll, and Photo Stream.
  • Apps: Installed apps. The content of the apps is listed under Documents & Data.
  • Books: iBooks books, audio books, and PDF files.
  • Documents & Data: Safari Offline Reading List, files stored within installed apps, and app content like contacts, calendars, messages, and emails (and their attachments).
  • Other: Settings, Siri voices, system data, and cached files."

More information can be found here: How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply jrobbie,

Here is an explanation of Documents and Data: "Documents & Data: Safari Offline Reading List, files stored within installed apps, and app content like contacts, calendars, messages, and emails (and their attachments)."

With that being explained, are you facing issues with storage? For example are you being prompted that you're almost out of storage?

Cheers!

What I’m referring to is the “documents and data” within the Photos app in the storage view location. In total, my phone says 1.19GB is taking up space in photos, but I have 75MB or less in actual photos on my phone and I don’t understand why or what’s is taking up that space. I’m not totally out of space, but when I was trying to clear things out the photos shows the largest app in size and iTunes says I have 1,100 photos taking up space, but there’s no photos on my phone actually there
