Not receiving verification texts

I’m not receiving certain text messages from unknown numbers with verification codes, appointment reminders, etc. I’ve gone through all my setting in iMessage and made sure everything is correct like it said to do in the User guide online. Now what??? Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions you can throw my way!
