Apple TV Remote changes Sony TV input when clicking Back or Menu button

This is a very sporadic (once a week) but annoying bug that starts happening after switching from a different input (video game console, Blu-Ray player etc), and back to the Apple TV.

The only way to resolve this is to restart the Apple TV, which makes me assume that the fault is on the Apple TV, not with the TV.

The irritations compounded by the fact that to get to the Restart menu option, you need to click the Back/Home buttons multiple times, which changes the TV input each time.

The Apple TV and Sony TV are both updated with the most recent OS/firmware. The TV model is a Sony BRAVIA XR A80J.

Has anyone else encountered this? It's possible to avoid this issue entirely by turning off the TV control features to change power and volume with the Apple TV remote, which I don't want to do. I would rather live with this irritation than have to use the TV remote to change volume when watching Apple TV content.

Hello Nicholas HE,

You may find a helpful resource regarding controlling the TV via the Siri Remote here: Control your TV and volume with the Siri Remote - Apple Support

When you note that the Siri Remote is changing the TV's input when hitting the Back or Menu buttons, is it switching the input to the Apple TV's designated one?

You may also try checking out the "Get help with your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote" section here: If you can't control your TV or receiver with your Apple TV Remote - Apple Support

It may help to try toggling the HDMI-CEC option on the TV off and back on as well.

Cheers.
