Iphone ownership transfer

Hi.

My phone was gifted to me by my partner, i had been using it for almost 5 years but my partner keep threatening me that he can get my phone blocked or can take it back anytime as the phone is on his name.

i have my own apple ID and everything but he purchased phone (all new) and i had been using it since the very first day.

can anyone Please assist me, how can i get rid of this fear, or is there any way to transfer my phone (handset) ownership on my name and no one can get the handset blocked or take it from me without my consent?

Thank You in anticipation

There is no ownership registry for the device. You're presumably logged into your iCloud account. As far as anyone knows, it is yours. You could trade it in toward a new phone if you wanted to do so.

For the cell plan, you can be added to the plan.

This other person is intentionally playing a very cruel game, and could take the phone back. "Gift" is often adjudicated in courts after a complaint is filed, and if this other person did pay for the device they has an official receipt (if you think they have not saved the receipt, think again!) they can get officials to force you to turn it over.

Buy your own phone, get your own plan with another carrier and try to transfer the existing number ... then return this "gift". If you cannot transfer the number, accept that a new number is a required part of getting at least this much independence. If you need personal physical privacy (the other person cannot physically hold and therefore alter the new phone by adding malicious software) then arrange the new living site first.

Yes, this is not "just a technical" answer, but this if people feel it should be deleted for that reason I can accept the enforcement of the forum rules.

Many thanks for prompt response and detailed information, truly appreciated 🙏🏻

Yes i was told that he would tell the officials that it’s his phone they’ll check the Imei name and then i’ll have to handover this phone to the officials and they’ll give it to him (partner) and there’s no way i could ever get back this phone. However, Icloud account I’m using on this phone is completely mine, (my own id and password).

could You please also share Your expertise and assist me, how can i get it checked or confirm on who’s name my (phone’s IMEI) is registered?

I’m saving money to get my own phone but unfortunately all my money had been blown away by same person, hence why i won’t be able to buy a new one so it would be secondhand and i’ll again have same imei or name registration issue.

Many thanks again
