Can I use an iMac as a display by connecting to a Mac mini HDMI?

I have a 21.5 inch iMac, late 2012 with h 4 USB 3 and 2 Thunderbolt ports. (Not sure if Thunderbolt 1 or 2.)

I am thinking of buying a Mac mini m1. Can I use the existing iMac as display-- eg by connecting Mac mini HDMI to one of the above mentioned ports?

No because the M1 Mac Mini does not support using the 2012 iMac as a display in Target Display Mode.

Sell or repurpose the iMac and buy a decent external display for the M1 Mac Mini.
