Siri and text messages

My dad who is basically blind and 92 years old uses Siri for all his communication needs on his iPhone. With the recent iOS update (15.4.1) somehow when sending text messages Siri will not record his message. She seems to just be stuck in a loop. Eventually she might ask to send it and if my dad responds send it, that is the only text message that is sent. “send it”. I’m not sure how to fix this myself. Anyone have advice?

Hi HelpingMyDad29,

If you'd like Siri to respond, these steps might help.

Have you had the chance to try a restart? We know this may seem like a simple step, but it resolves issues both big and small.

How to restart your iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd generation), 8, 7, or 6
1. Press and hold the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

The information above is from Restart your iPhone

If the issue continues, then you'll want to check out the microphones on your Dad's iPhone. Follow the steps below from If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working.

1. Remove any screen protectors, films, or cases from your iPhone.
2. Clear any debris from the openings of your iPhone.

1. Open the Voice Memos app.
2. Tap the Record button , speak at the bottom of your phone, then stop the recording.
3. When you play back the memo, you should hear your voice clearly.
4. If you don't hear your voice clearly, contact Apple Support.

Since Siri uses the same microphone as in FaceTime or Voice Memos, this is a good test to see if it could possibly be an issue with the microphone.

We hope that helps with your question and take care!

I am having this exact same problem - I have an iphone 7 and it started this delay after updating to 15.4.1.

It is NOT the microphone. The mic works fine without delay in Facetime and Voice Memos.

HelpingMyDad29 says: "And all this started after I updated his iOS to 15.4.1. Now it takes about 4 to 5 seconds before Siri will record the text by voice. I get a vibrating notice that she is ready to record basically where before the update she would record immediately after she said “what would you like to say?”"

THIS!!! I am having this exact same issue.

Yes I tried all that first. I’ve worked a little more with his phone today and I think it’s more of a delay in Siri problem now. And all this started after I updated his iOS to 15.4.1. Now it takes about 4 to 5 seconds before Siri will record the text by voice. I get a vibrating notice that she is ready to record basically where before the update she would record immediately after she said “what would you like to say?” Is this delay normal or a product of his iPhone 8? It doesn’t happen on my own iPhone 11 after the iOS update. Can this be fixed? And just for reference my dad is practically blind and so he uses this iPhone for all of his communication because he can talk to Siri. He needs the home button in order to do that or I’d upgrade him to something else but because he’s 92 and blind I don’t think that’s workable . Thanks for any help on all this.
