iPad FaceTime activation and support

I am trying to activate FaceTime and iMessage on my sons new iPad but it just keeps saying activation error. I have followed the steps in apple support but still no joy. Is my only option to contact apple support? ( which I can’t do via iMessage because it doesn’t work!)

Having no information as to what you might have previously tried, start here:

If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support


If problems persist, you can obtain help from the Apple Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:
