Mac Studio won't hold the brightness setting of my external HP monitor

I have a single HP external monitor which I use with both my 2017 MacBook Pro and my brand new 2022 Mac Studio. The monitor is an HP Pavilion 32q (32" QHD monitor). Both my MacBook Pro and my Mac Studio are running macOS 12.3.1.

The MacBook Pro retains changes I make to the brightness of the monitor, using the monitor's physical control buttons across sleeping or rebooting. The MacStudio doesn't. As soon as the Mac Studio sleeps, the brightness setting reverts to the very bright default.

I'm guessing this is an issue with the M1 Max display drivers? This monitor does not have a brightness control available in System Preferences/Displays. The app "QuickShade" provides a slightly quirky workaround (some context switches flash the screen at full brightness for half a second), but I'm hoping that Apple provides a native macOS fix, or perhaps there's another workaround?

Just FYI. I have a Mac mIni M1 with an LG 5K display and it never remembers the brightness setting after waking from sleep. This has been reported by many so perhaps the Studio acts the same way.

So I just got my new Mac Studio and with my LG 5K display it appears to remember the brightness level after waking from sleep however I usually do not use sleep I just turn off the display after 20 minutes (screen saver before).

Is there a brightness setting for the LG display in System Preferences/Displays? Is it a native thunderbolt connection? Mine is HDMI. Also in my case I have two different computers connected to a single display. I switch back and forth between them, one is for work the other is for home use. Although I've tried disconnecting the HDMI cable from the MacBook to see if that was the issue and the display brightness still isn't saved by the Mac Studio.

Yes, there is a brightness control in preferences but also use my keyboard. I have the auto brightness setting on so it is adjusting as my room light changes. I connect using a TB connection (only one available with the LG).
