To set up Yahoo POP account:

  1. pick other for mail account
  2. On next screen enter bogus email and PW
  3. On next screen enter real email and PW and pick POP

Note: Yahoo now requires that they generate a PW so go to the Yahoo email site and under security follow the steps required to change the PW after setup otherwise you will not be able to send out email.

I initially did this but I found using IMAP was more reliable.

I try to set up a POP account in Mac Mail and it won't authenticate. It keeps setting up a IMAP account which won't allow messages to remain on the yahoo server once downloaded to MacMail. Thanks for your reply

IMAP accounts keep the emails on the server. and sync the emails with all devices accessing the account. POP accounts do not retain the emails on the server and download the emails to the first device accessing the account.
