I've connected my iPad mini 5 and MacBook Air 2020. I get the Magic Mouse cursor on the iPad and can move it to the MacBook, but the mouse won't connect to the MacBook on its own. I have to start on the iPad and move it over, even if I don't have any need otherwise to use the iPad.
Is the mouse visible in the Mac's Bluetooth preferences? If so, you need to reconnect to the mouse. Be sure the mouse is fully charged just for good measure.
Try the mouse on a different Mac. What you have to determine is the fault with the Mac or the mouse.

Thanks. It is visible, but it never connects. During many tries, I got “connection failed,” or just nothing. Mouse is fully charged. Tried the usual restarts, turning mouse and Bluetooth off and on.
Great. Will try that. The mouse worked perfectly with the Mac until I played around with Universal Control with the iPad, but you never know. Appreciate your help!
