iPad Screen Recording Frame Rate Dropping Longer Clips

I am trying to screen record annotating with an Apple pencil in Keynote on an iPad Pro but I've having issues with REALLY low frame rates.

I've tried an 11" Pro 2018, an 11" Pro 2021, and a 12" Pro 2021, and all 3 of them give me different frame rates when screen recording. The screen recording is roughly 35 minutes long but when it gets to that length it drops to 0.26 FPS. If I only record for 10 minutes it still drops to 10.84 FPS. The only time I'm getting 30+ FPS is if the clip is less than 2 minutes.

Does anyone know why this would be doing this, and is there a way I can capture this length some other way?

Hello dpdesignz,

If you share the video to another device, do they play back at a higher frame rate? This would help determine if it was a recording or playback issue.

Here are a couple of things that may help.

Power cycle the iPad using these instructions: Restart your iPad - Apple Support While simple, this can refresh the iPadOS, apps and connections.

Be sure these are the steps being used to record the screen:

1. Go to Settings  > Control Center, then tap the Insert button next to Screen Recording.
2. Open Control Center, tap the Screen Recording button, then wait for the three-second countdown.
3. To stop recording, open Control Center, tap the Selected Screen Recording button or the red status bar at the top of the screen, then tap Stop.

Since video recordings can use a large amount of space, you will want to confirm that there is plenty of storage available. Tap on Settings > General > iPad Storage.

Have a good day.
