Upgrade 2008 Imac Desktop by adding new Minimac

Hello friends. My 2008 desktop has been awesome but with only 4gb of ram it's showing its age. But I love it and don't want to part with it. So, I was wondering if it would be possible to connect a new Mini Mac to it, to use its screen at least, and perhaps its memory as a back up? Thanks all.

No 2008 could ever work as an external monitor for another Mac via Target Display Mode. The very limiting conditions under which TDM worked are laid d out in this Apple article:

Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support

You can't access the memory (RAM) in the iMac from another computer but you could remove the iMac's internal hard drive (storage) and put it into an external enclosure to be a backup/auxiliary drive.
