Back up problem pls halp don’t know anything about computers ✌️

I went to an apple store today to fix an issue and was told to buy more storage, back up my computer (which would take a long time) and then send it in to resolve the issue. I bought more storage but I cannot figure out how to back it up (I think I accomplished steps of it, but it only took a short time?)
