Video clips not playing properly anymore

I just upgraded to FCP X 10.6.2 and some h264 files are no longer playing back properly (though they work fine in VLC and in older versions of FCP... HEVC files from the same camera work. just fine). They stutter and are mostly black with a skipping of the video. I can't render the files out plus transcoding getting stuck at 99% so I can't work with proxies or optimized clips.

The A**9 drive is full.

disk2s1 - A**9
255.87 GB (251.57 GB used, 4.28 GB free)
Mount point: /Volumes/A**9

Also, where did these H.264 files come from? A GoPro? We've had intermittent issues where GoPro 10 video turns black. Quitting FCP and reopening the library has always fixed it though.

For some reason Monterey 12.3.1, Big Sur 11.6.4, Mojave 10.14.6 QuickTime Player display only every 15th I-frame of that 30 fps H.264 .mp4. All P-frames are skipped. FCP 10.6.1 displays P-frames black.

IINA, VLC and Avidemux display it OK in Monterey 12.3.1.

On the other hand in Mojave 10.14.6 and El Capitan 10.11.6 QuickLook, QuickTime Player 7 and MPEG Streamclip display it OK.

Re-wrapping as .mp4 does not help:

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c copy output.mp4

Invisor does not readily show anything obvious wrong with the movie.

That’s the memory card for the Viofo A139 dashcam. I’m copying the files locally for editing.

The files don’t play back properly anymore when recorded in the native h.264. When I switch to h.265, the files will play properly in the latest FCP X.

I shoot on GoPros too, but those are fine. I use h.265 for both of my GoPros and haven’t tested 264 yet.
