I just replaced my apple phone and now I cannot retrieve my photos from the old phone

My phone was damaged beyond repair. I had insurance and got a new phone through Asurion. During the claim process it told me I needed to remove my phone from my plan or erase it. I removed it. When I did that I lost all access to the photos saved on my phone. I thought it was on the cloud but cannot find them. My damaged phone turns on and reacts to pressing the home key but the screen is so smashed I cannot unlock my phone. If I bring it to an apple store can they retrieve the photos saved on the phone.

When you go to Settings > Your Name, Apple ID, iCloud, etc. and Tap iCloud, if you had synced photos with the cloud, make sure Photos are turned on there. If Photos are turned on there and using the same Apple ID, they are not syncing to your new phone, the ONLY way you could get your photos back is IF you had a backup from the old phone before it was damaged. If they don't sync back from iCloud Photos, nor you had a backup, then your photos are gone.
