How can I sync my iPhone w/MacBook Pro? Tried doing several suggestions but nothing is working. I can't find things they say to click on

I've tried the following:

Try iTunes > Preferences > Devices > Reset Sync History and then try syncing once more. I went in to Music icon, preferences, BUT THERE WAS NO DEVICES to click on.

Can anyone assist me?

I'm trying to sync my latest contacts
