The latest iOS update no longer reconnects my iphoneX to my Honda CarPlay if I unplug it while the car is running.

The latest iOS update no longer reconnects my iphoneX to my 2018 Honda CarPlay if I unplug the iPhone while the car is running. I now have to turn the car off to get it to work again. This started just after the last iOS update.

This is a significant bug.

Does anyone have a workaround that does not require the car to be stopped and restarted?

Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer.
