MacOS shows VPN twice / duplicated in the menu bar entry

I have a single VPN configured but it shows up twice in the menu bar entry unless I disable the VPN menu bar entry and reenable it - but then the bug comes back shortly after.

Has there been any word on fixing this?

Is it causing problems? Have you restated? Sometimes a restart will cure small glitches. Maybe try a safe mode start: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Hi there, thanks for the fast reply!

It's not causing major issues, just major annoyances that the UI is so broken.

I have restarted many times (this has been going on for as long as I have used the VPN feature, so at least half a year), and disabled and reenabled the menu bar entry - while it may fix it - it will only do so for a very short time, until I have connected to the VPN again a few times and/or switched from one wifi to the other and so on.

I just tested this again by disabling and reenabling the menu bar entry - that fixed it - until I connected to wifi and then my iphone hotspot, connected and disconnected the VPN a few times, switched wifi back and forth.. and after the 4th or so VPN connect the bug was back.

Perhaps the issue is their Software

According to this Website it does mention

Requirements / Restrictions

macOS 10.6 or later is installed on the computer.

That leaves a Big Distance between macOS 10.6 Snow Leopard and macOS 12 Monterey

"just major annoyances that the UI is so broken". What does this mean? It it refers to the dual entry presentation and it's causing no operational problems, I'd hardly consider the UI to be "so broken".

I've had things like this, innocuous little issues, that I just let go of. Sooner or later, something always shows up in my rabbit hole travels that points to a fix. If not, I forget 'em. I've got far more important things to fret over. You know, the economy, crime and all the other lovely things that should matter to all of us.
