How can I remove the sidebar on a pdf file on my iPad?

How to remove the sidebar in iOS Preview? I like to read PDFs on iPad (manuals, articles etc.). For some reason, unlike on macOS Preview, the thumbnail side is shown permanently. This seems to me a SERIOUS design flaw: it deprives the user of control over the presentation, wastes precious screen space, and, most importantly, RANDOMLY – which I think is the worst quality of a design – reduces focus without ANY gain (the thumbnails could show up by tipping the screen, just as all other additional controls are and/or show up when scrolling). Did I do something wrong or is there really no way to hide it?

Removing pullout sidebar How do I get rid of the pullout sidebar on my iPad? I’ve gone into settings and looked for “multitasking” but I don’t have that title Whenever I try to read an article embedded in another story it pops out in the sidebar

What side bar?

What App are you using to view the PDF?

If using the Apple Files app and the regular built in viewer, there's only the panel that shows the pages that exist in the PDF file. It isn't actually part of the file.
