I think my Apple account has been compromised

I think my Apple account has been compromised. When I go into my settings and look at my passwords it shows that my password to my Apple account is the same as it’s always been. But then I try to download a new app or sign into my Apple account and it says that my password is incorrect then when I look back in settings at my password it said that it was modified on April 19 but that is not true
