Missing photos from messages after restore

I recently upgraded phones and did a full backup to my desktop from my old phone. I restored the new phone from that backup and now a good chunk of the photos from my messages are missing. Is this something that takes several days to download or am I just out of luck? Some of the photos are there but the most recent one is about 2 years old.

Hey Tgarver,

It can definitely take some time for message attachments to appear. The more you have the longer it'll take. Do you happen to use Messages in iCloud by chance? You can check by going to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Messages. If so, the messages and their attachments wouldn't be stored on the backup and instead would sync over from iCloud and could take a bit.
