Not getting Message notifications

For the last day or so I haven’t been getting notifications for new text messages. I’ve checked all the settings and notifications are enabled. I turned off focus, I restarted my phone multiple times and still I am not getting the notifications. I’m getting them for other apps just not messages. How can I fix this?

Thank you for trying that. Is this occurring with all contacts, or just specific ones? If so, let's try changing the alert tone: Change message notifications on iPhone


Also, let's make sure that your ringer switch is set to on, and that these are not set to deliver quietly:


Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch


If this is limited to group messages, follow this song and make sure the messages are not muted:


Leave a group text message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


Finally, if you are using any type of VPN connection, can you try turning that off for us?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Excellent job with isolating this behavior specific to the Messages app. There are steps that may help. Let's follow these steps:


  1. Temporarily turn off "Allow Notifications" in Settings > Notifications > Messages.
  2. Then, restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  3. Go back to Settings > Notifications > Messages > turn on, "Allow Notifications" and verify that you have your alerts enabled correctly.


From there, please test and see if you're able to receive notifications from the Messages app.

Here are couple more steps to try:


  1. Turn off all affected devices for at least 1 minute and then restart them. Test again afterward with a few different apps.
  2. If the issue persists, go to Settings > Notifications > choose the affected app(s), disable notifications, then re-enable them.
  3. If the notification issue only occurs with a single third-party app, contact the app developer for further assistance.
