how to create shortcuts for 3rd party mouse

Hi! I have a microsoft mouse that I use with my macbook at home.

The place where I work has a function on their computers so that the mouse when they select a word it automatically copies that word and if you then use the scroll button it pastes that word.

I am not very good with technical stuff so I was wondering if anyone might know if I can make this work on my macbook with my microsoft mouse?
