Importing .mov file into iMovie

I have a .mov file created using iMovie in 2012 and would like to re-import it into the latest version of iMovie and edit it. I'm running macOS Monterey (v 12.3.1). I can import it, but cannot edit it.

You won't be able to edit the embedded edits in a standalone movie that has been imported as a clip into iMovie 10. In other words, you cannot unpack the movie to modify the edits. However, you can do some limited editing such as splitting the clip, deleting and moving segments, adding titles, adding additional clips, adding music, adding effects, adding transitions between segment, etc. .
