How much is a Mac worth?

Another way, is to check the current listings for that model at places like eBay, Craigslist and local listings.

A big +1 on looking at sites like Craigslist.

Mac prices WILL vary locally. In my area, the prices change a lot over 35 miles. The town where I live does not have a lot of Macs but, 35 miles north, there are two state universities and a lot of used Macs available, therefore lower prices.

Craigslist or other localized selling sites let you see pricing in your location, not some general values averaged over country-size areas.

Remember, on eBay or any other selling service, the shipping costs for an iMac can be a significant chunk of the used value, if any. That makes it unattractive to non-local buyers, and unattractive to you if you "sweeten the pot" by picking up the shipping costs. If you are offered US$40 for the computer and shipping is say, $30....well, you get the picture.

On E-Bay I wouldn't pay more than $100 for an obsolete 12 year old iMac and that would be if it had at least 16GB of RAM and a SSD installed.
