Problem with importing into Final Cut Pro with Canon HV10 HDV Camcorder

Hi. Until very recently I have been able to import media into Final Cut Pro X using my Canon HV10 HDV Camcorder. Suddenly it just doesn't show up as an option in FCPX when I try to import media. I wonder if it has to do with the latest upgrade to the FCPX software, 10.6.2. I have tried all the obvious trouble shooting solutions such as closing and rebooting the software on my laptop and I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the cables and adapters. I have not yet tried replacing the firewire cable but before I buy another one I want to make sure it isn't something else.
