iBooks is an app that is included with macOS.
The current version for a Mac running Catalina 10.15.7 is Books 2.4. (iBooks is no longer the app name).
Navigate to the Mac App Store > Updates and see if there is an update available for you there.
The app cannot be deleted from the computer.
The worst-case-scenario for replacement of the app is to reinstall macOS. This will not require you to wipe the drive first, merely to reinstall a fresh copy of the OS on top of the damaged installation.

My error - I’d added a screen shot, but it was not included. The error message states: "You can’t use this version of the application "iBooks" with this version of macOS." It adds 'You have iBooks" 1.16' My iMac runs macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7; the app used 50 G that I use otherwise. I’d be grateful for any advice.
