Allowing file copy, duplicate etc in Finder

Files on the desktop of my 24" 2021 M1 Monterey iMac require a password to be copied, or duplicated, or moved into a folder. How can I stop that behaviour? The iMac was loaded using Migration Assistant from a Mojave OS 21.5" iMac that did not and does not show this behaviour. I realise that permissions might have to be changed but which permissions where?

Select the folder and change yourself as the owner with Read & Write permissions:
