How easily can iPhone 13 screen (and internals) get damaged?

I dropped my AirPods and they fell on my iPhone 13 screen. They clanged against it pretty hard. Is it possible that this can cause some damage to internal components or decrease sensitivity? I have a tempered glass screen protector. Does it protect the screen when you accidently drop something solid (not too heavy) on your phone?

Hi Viikkah,

Thanks for reaching out! iPhone screens are very durable, and iPhone 13 has Ceramic Shield which is the strongest glass ever in a smartphone. It would be very unlikely that any internal components would be damaged before the glass itself is damaged. Considering you also have a tempered glass screen protector installed, I personally would not be concerned about your internals.

A lot of things could happen, but it would take quite a bit to cause damage internally. If I dropped something that light, I'd worry more that it might scratch or possibly chip the glass.

Of course cumulative shocks eventually damage solder connections, but one little shock might be one of thousands of instances of bumping or rough handling.

I don't think it would protect much against the body being damaged. If anything, it would reduce scratches. But for that one usually wants a case. And my big worry is in protecting the body more than the glass. I've seen people with a combination of a case and a glass screen protector where the thickness meant that in total it protruded from the case and I suppose hitting the glass protector would mean shock to the body or possibly even the front screen.

Thank you! As a matter of fact, for some reason my AirPods ended up falling on my iPhone screen more than once.

To what extent can an iPhone hardware diagnostics test (done by AppleCare or an Apple Authorized Service Provider - I live in Finland and there’s no Apple Store) identify hardware problems including OLED display, battery, sensors etc? How reliable is it?
