Asterisk will not type on keyboard when using SHIFT + 8. Tried attaching another keyboard via usb, still not working. Tried typing Asterisk from "Show Keyboard Viewer" and still doesn't type
I can only type the asterisk when in safe boot mode.
Steps taken
Boot into Safe Mode, Reboot into normal mode, Reset NVRAM, Reset SMC

Figured it out. The software Screenflow v 6.2.2 was auto launching its helper app at login. Screenflow uses a shortcut Shift + 8 to add markers to its editing timeline. Disabled the auto launch of the helper and I’m back in business.

It's been going on for quite a while and I've just ignored it so I can't pin-point exactly what software would be causing it. I do think it is software related. I just created a new user account on machine and it doesn't happen when logged into the 2nd account.
How long has this been going on?
Have you installed 3rd party software that uses special keyboard shortcuts for certain actions?
